How Television Affects Minds and Bodies
Television has been described as "the raucous life of the party that won't leave the house." According to the A.C. Nielsen Company, this omnipresent beast is on an average of seven hours and 38 minutes a day in American households. This means that from birth on, children are surrounded by sensory stimulants. They become accustomed to an environment filled with noise, and they grow accustomed to focusing on constantly changing visual patterns. Teachers and child psychologists today see more and more children with hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder. Could it be that megadoses of television are responsible?
