WELCOME TO ANCIENT TIMES!

HOW TO IMPLEMENT INTERDISCIPLINARY CURRICULA

INTERDISCIPLINARY SOCIAL STUDIES GUIDES TO ANCIENT TIMES

These guides describe how to provide an all-absorbing immersion into several ancient times for you and your students. These interdisciplinary topics work for all classes in your school, for those in the same grade, for your classroom alone, or for homeschooling. Although the school-wide study depends far more than the others on a variety of materials to meet the needs of diverse ages and abilities, it is the most invigorating. It will require a number of planning periods for all who will be involved. Contact a local media specialist in the public school system or a local librarian for suggestions of materials.

INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDENTS' GUIDE TO ANCIENT GREECE AND ROME

Fourteen pages cover Greek and Roman mythological characters; mythological places; words from the myths; plus twenty-two graphics of Greek and Roman figures and architecture and two students' activity pages. Through the study of the cultures of the ancient Greeks and Romans, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the connection between these Greeks and Romans and the fundamental principles of western civilization: Dignity of man, brotherly love, and a rule of law. Students should use their critical thinking skills to analyze and critique both ancient and modern systems of values. Do past values exist today?

N.B.
Myths, like fairy tales, are just that: made-up stories, fiction, not fact. Amazingly, those that originated in ancient Greece and Rome have survived for centuries. Today, we know the characters so well that it seems as though they must really have existed. We apply their names to our space missiles, Earth's planets and other celestial objects, household products, plants and animals, and write operas that tell of mythical characters and their struggles.
